Kylie Ahern

Kylie is an award-winning science publisher and strategist. She is CEO of STEM Matters – a research and STEM engagement agency.

After 10 years working across media titles in the UK and Australia, she co-founded Cosmos Magazine and built it to be the number one science magazine and website nationally. After selling her equity in COSMOS, she helped establish the Nature Publishing Group team in the Australian and New Zealand market.

In 2016 Kylie founded STEM Matters which has quickly become Australian’s leading agency for engagement, communications and content for the STEM sector.

In 2020 she founded The Brilliant, the world’s first publication dedicated to showcasing the global leaders in STEM and research engagement.

Hundreds of billions of dollars are spent globally every year on research in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) but only a fraction translates into wide attention from the public, governments, industry, the media and philanthropy. Yet there are researchers, entrepreneurs, leaders and communicators who have succeeded brilliantly at creating a large audience for their research and innovations, often leading to greater access to funding.

Who are they? How did they do it? Can their success be replicated?

The Brilliant exists to answer those questions.

Kylie serves on the board of Science & Technology Australia and the Australian Centre for Robotic Vision.
