Australia’s first Robotics Roadmap was released in 2018 as a guide to how Australia can harness the benefits of a new robot economy. The ARC Centre of Excellence for Robotic Vision partnered with industry, researchers and government agencies across Australia, as part of a national consultation process. The Robotics Roadmap project team collated submissions, conducted multiple in-depth interviews and led five workshops nationally in order to produce the report.
The Roadmap is structured to provide an overview of robotics in Australia, looking at the issues that greater take-up creates and then a sectoral breakdown of current activity and future outlook. Each chapter is informed by participation from industry and highlights some of the bright spots – the applications of robotics across industries, which can be an exemplar for further progress.
Like any roadmap, it doesn’t mandate direction. Rather it shows the start point and the possible endpoints through the range of journies Australians and our industries could take. There are many directions and many social and economic issues to consider if Australia is to advance.
The Centre for Robotic Vision is proud to have created this important document for the future of automation in Australia, and the many benefits to Australians. In 2020 work commenced on the development of A Robotics Roadmap for Australia 2.0.
